The Bivacco Fratelli Pasqualetti is a very small, unmanaged emergency alpine shelter located high in the Brenta Dolomites, Italy. It is renowned for its exposed position and minimalist nature.
Location and Characteristics
Perched at an altitude of approximately 3,280 meters (10,760 feet) on the north-eastern shoulder of Cima Tosa, one of the highest peaks in the Brenta Group. Its location offers breathtaking panoramic views but signifies a very challenging and exposed approach.
- Structure: An extremely basic metallic structure, often described as a "dog kennel," offering minimal protection against the elements.
- Capacity: Extremely limited, typically accommodating only 2-3 people in very cramped conditions. It is primarily intended for emergency use.
- Access: Reaching the Bivacco Pasqualetti is a serious mountaineering endeavor, typically part of an ascent of Cima Tosa via its normal route or other challenging alpine routes. It requires significant alpine experience, proper equipment, and excellent physical condition.
Purpose and Use
The bivouac serves as a crucial emergency shelter for climbers caught out by severe weather or other difficulties while on Cima Tosa. It is not designed or intended for planned overnight stays due to its rudimentary nature and very limited space.
- Self-sufficiency: Users must be entirely self-sufficient, carrying all necessary mountaineering gear, food, water, and sleeping equipment. There are no facilities whatsoever.
- Season: Typically accessible during the high summer mountaineering season, generally from July to September, subject to snow and route conditions. Winter access is exceptionally dangerous and only for highly experienced alpinists.
