- But if you’re lookin’ for them old-timey bricks, the ones with stamps and such, well, them’s a whole different story. Folks collect them things, you know. Could be ten to thirty dollars a brick, easy. Crazy, ain’t it?
- And then you got the new ones. Them can be anywhere from two to six dollars a square foot. Buy ‘em by the thousand, and you’re lookin’ at three hundred and fifty to nine hundred dollars. That’s enough to make your head spin.
Now, don’t forget, if you ain’t handy like me, you gotta pay someone to put them bricks in for ya. That’s gonna cost ya too. Heard it could be another three hundred to eight hundred dollars. All that money, just to have a fancy fireplace or pizza oven.
But why do people use these fire bricks anyway? Well, like I said, they can handle the heat. We’re talking temperatures up to 2460 degrees Fahrenheit! That’s hotter than anything I’ve ever seen, let me tell ya. And that’s important, see, ‘cause you don’t want your fireplace or oven fallin’ apart on ya.
These bricks are tough, real tough. They gotta be, to stand up to all that heat. They make ‘em with somethin’ called alumina, I think. The more alumina, the hotter they can get. But them high-alumina bricks, them’s the expensive ones. You probably don’t need them for just a regular fireplace.
You can use these fire bricks for all sorts of things. Fireplaces, of course. Pizza ovens, both inside and outside your house. Wood-burning stoves, they need ‘em too. Even them fancy barbeque grills, sometimes they use ‘em. Heck, I even heard of people usin’ ‘em for fire pits in their backyard. Fancy folks, I tell ya.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about buildin’ somethin’ that needs to stand up to a lot of heat, you’re gonna need fire bricks. Just be prepared to shell out some cash, ‘cause they ain’t cheap. But I reckon they’re worth it, if you want somethin’ that’s gonna last. Do your research, find the right kind for your needs, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. And if you find a good deal on used bricks, well, that’s just gravy, ain’t it?
And one last thing, I heard some folks say Redbank Clay fire bricks are good. They have a smooth surface. You can use them in fireplaces, kilns, furnaces and them bread ovens too. They sound pretty good to me.
