Alright, let’s talk about them pizza ovens, the kind made with that… what’s the word… ceramic stuff. You know, the things them fancy city folks use to make them flatbreads with all sorts of toppings.
What is this ceramic thingy anyway?
Well, from what I hear, it’s this stuff they make from clay or some other rocks. They heat it up real good, and it gets hard like a brick, but smoother, you know? Folks say it’s good for cookin’ ‘cause it holds the heat real well. Like, when you put your pizza in there, the ceramic gets hot and cooks the bottom all nice and crispy. That’s what them young’uns tell me, anyways.
Why use ceramic for a pizza oven?
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I heard tell that ceramic is good for bakin’ ‘cause it soaks up the water from the dough, makes the crust crispy. And ain’t nobody likes a soggy pizza, right? They also say it spreads the heat even, so you don’t get no burnt spots, just a nice, golden-brown crust all over. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it just means it cooks good.
- Holds heat good: Keeps the oven hot for a long time, saves you on fuel, I guess.
- Even cookin’: No more burnt edges and raw middles, everything cooks just right.
- Crispy crust: That’s the most important part, ain’t it? Nobody wants a floppy pizza.
Types of Ceramic Pizza Ovens
Now, there’s all sorts of these ceramic pizza ovens out there. Some are big, some are small, some you put on a table, some you build right into your yard. Them big ones are for folks with lots of land and lots of mouths to feed. Them little ones are good for just a few people. And then there’s them kits, where you buy all the pieces and put it together yourself, like a puzzle. I ain’t got no time for puzzles, but some folks enjoy that sort of thing.
Setting up your ceramic pizza oven.
If you’re gonna get one of these ceramic ovens, you gotta think about where you’re gonna put it. You can’t just set it down on any old thing, no sir. If you’re puttin’ it on somethin’ steady, like a counter in your kitchen or a table outside, you want somethin’ strong, like granite or concrete. If you are using a table made for pizza ovens, they say that stainless steel is the best because it’s easy to clean and don’t rust when it rains. And you gotta make sure it’s level, otherwise your pizza gonna slide right off! And you gotta keep it away from anything that can catch fire, like dry leaves or wood. Common sense, really.
Using Your Ceramic Pizza Oven
Now, using one of these ovens ain’t as easy as stickin’ a pizza in the microwave. First off, you gotta heat it up real good. Them young’uns say you gotta preheat it, whatever that means. And you can’t just crank it up to high right away, you gotta ease it up there, let it get hot slow and steady. And you gotta watch the temperature, make sure it don’t get too hot or too cold. Too hot, and your pizza’s burnt. Too cold, and it’s raw. It’s like bakin’ a pie, I reckon, you gotta pay attention to what you’re doin’. And don’t forget about your tools, you need somethin’ to put the pizza in and somethin’ to take it out and this big ol’ flat spatula to slide under the pizza so you can turn it. Just use your head, you’ll figure it out. They also said you could use a regular ol’ pan if you have to, the kind what’s made of metal or even that shiny silver stuff, what do they call it, oh yeah, stainless steel.
Taking care of your pizza oven.
And after you’re done makin’ your pizza, you gotta clean that oven. You can’t just leave it all dirty, no sir. You gotta scrape off all the burnt bits and wipe it down. And you gotta check it for cracks, make sure it ain’t gonna fall apart on ya. If you take care of it, it’ll last you a long time, they say. Just like takin’ care of a good cast iron skillet, I reckon.
So, is a ceramic pizza oven worth it?
Well, that depends on how much you like pizza, I guess. And how much money you got to spend. Them things ain’t cheap, but if you like makin’ your own pizza and you want it to taste good, then it might be worth the investment. Me? I’m happy with a good ol’ wood-fired oven, but to each their own, I say.
And if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ one, I say do your homework, read up on it, and talk to folks who know more than I do. There are lots of different kinds out there, and you gotta find the one that’s right for you. And don’t go buyin’ somethin’ you can’t afford, just ’cause it looks fancy. A good pizza can be made in any kind of oven, long as you know what you’re doin’.
And one more thing, them city folks, they sell these kits to make yer grill into a pizza oven, some fella named blackstone or somethin’ like that. Said it turns your griddle into a pizza makin’ contraption. Sounds like a load of hogwash to me, but what do I know? Them young’uns seem to like it.
